Meet Emily, KIDBOX marketing consultant and mother to two!
Explain your role at KIDBOX and what you do!
I help with brand marketing and making sure that our customers experience our brand consistently across all channels and platforms.
When did you become interested in working in Fashion?
I’ve always loved fashion, but it wasn’t necessarily what I always thought I’d do. My first job was actually doing Marketing & PR at a bottled water company! I’m more interested in brands – what makes a great brand and how customers connect to them.
What is your favorite part about working at KIDBOX?
The people! Smart, ambitious and not afraid to make decisions that make our business better for our customers. And I love that we are providing a service that makes parents’ lives easier!
What was your dream job when you were a kid?
The Virgo in me dreamed of being an Executive Assistant – something about being highly organized appealed to me, and I really, really loved taking phone messages on “while you were out” notepads! My mom always encouraged me to start there and keep dreaming – great advice!
What is your favorite brand in our Back-to-School boxes?
I really like Design History as well as Andy and Evan.
Who are your style icons?
My mother-in-law! She is the chicest woman I know. She inspires me to step outside my comfort zone every now and then, and always makes me second-guess (in a good way!) my “mom uniform” of jeans / sweaters / sneakers when she arrives to babysit looking so stylish.
What is your favorite item in your closet?
A navy leather moto jacket that I wear with everything. It’s a classic but since it’s navy, not black, it has a little twist, and it instantly makes an outfit cool.
What is your favorite MOMent with your kids?
There are so many it’s hard to choose! My kids are 3 (Andrew) and almost 18 months (Lucy), and we are just starting to get to the point (after many months of ignoring / pestering / and worse…) where Andrew will tolerate playing with Lucy, who just adores him. The other day, we walked in from the garage and were taking our shoes off, when I looked down to see Andrew gently helping Lucy take off her shoes because “that’s what big brothers do.” Heart. Melted.
What’s an item on your bucket list?
My husband and I always talk about living abroad for a few years, but can never decide on the right time. If not that, then I’d like to do more traveling, especially spending some time in Australia and New Zealand. My husband played rugby in Australia after college, and I’ve never been – I’d love to let him relive his glory days!
What was your favorite book as a kid?
“Are You My Mother?” by P.D. Eastman. My mom saved my much-loved copy from childhood and gave it to me at my baby shower when I was pregnant with my son. It’s falling apart, but hopefully it will survive the next 30+ years so I can pass on to my grandchildren.
